What makes a Shopify jewellery store different
Most catalogues have a price that changes when someone edits it. Gold jewellery has a price that changes with the market. Add high order values, buyers who want proof before they pay, and pieces people still want to see in person, and a standard theme setup falls short quickly.
We build Shopify jewellery and watch stores for UAE retailers that handle those parts properly, and that hand off cleanly to your branches when the sale finishes in store.
Gold-rate-linked pricing on Shopify
Shopify has no built-in live metal pricing. Every variant has a fixed price until something changes it. So the job is to make that something reliable:
- Store the inputs per variant in metafields: metal, karat (18K, 21K, 22K, 24K), net gold weight in grams, making charge (per gram or fixed) and stone value.
- Pull the rate on a schedule from a source you choose: a market-data feed, or the rate your purchasing team sets each morning.
- Recalculate and write prices in bulk through Shopify's Admin API, from a custom app or a pricing app, logging every change.
- Add guardrails: skip the update if the feed fails or jumps beyond a set limit, round to sensible AED figures, and alert someone when it does.
- Tell the customer: "Price based on today's 22K rate" on the product page, and a clear rule for carts left open overnight.
Retail sites don't need tick-by-tick prices; a few updates a day is usually enough. Your Google Shopping feed has to keep up with the site, because Google Merchant Center requires the price on the page to match the price in the feed (Merchant Center Help, last checked October 2026). If you have several branches and an ERP that already prices gold, the ERP is often the better source of truth. That's the pattern we built for Dubai Optical and Opti-Vision, where stock, prices and orders sync between Shopify and the stores' back office; see Shopify ERP integration.
Certificates, serial numbers and trust
- Diamond grading reports: lab, report number, carat, colour, clarity and cut stored as structured fields, the certificate PDF attached, and a link to the lab's own online report check.
- Watches: reference number, box and papers, warranty details and, for pre-owned pieces, a condition grade. One-of-one pieces are listed as single-unit products so they can't oversell.
- Serial numbers: we usually show a partial serial publicly and record the full one on the order and invoice, through your POS or ERP.
- Hallmarks and purity shown on the product page in English and Arabic.
High-value payments: cards, BNPL and bank transfer
| Method | What to check | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Cards (UAE gateway, or Shopify Payments on Advanced and Plus) | Customers' own bank limits on online card spend, 3-D Secure, and your gateway's rules for high-ticket categories | Most orders |
| Tabby and Tamara | Each provider sets its own order and customer limits, which can sit below a fine jewellery basket, and may restrict categories such as bullion and coins | Entry pieces, gifts, watches within the limit |
| Bank transfer | Set up as a manual payment method; the order is held and shipped only after funds clear | High-value pieces |
| Reserve online, pay in store | Local pickup at a branch with ID, paid on Shopify POS or your existing terminal | Buyers who want to see the piece first |
We configure checkout so BNPL only appears where it can approve the basket, and cards or transfer take over above that. Gateway options are covered on Shopify payment gateways in the UAE.
Insured shipping, signature delivery and collection
Standard courier cover is rarely enough for a diamond ring. We set up separate shipping profiles for high-value items, rates that include declared-value insurance from your courier or a valuables specialist, and signature or ID-checked delivery to the cardholder's name. Plain outer packaging, fulfilment held until fraud checks pass, and same-day delivery in Dubai by your own staff are all options. For many buyers, collection from a branch is the preferred route anyway.
Appointments and virtual consultations
Engagement rings, bespoke pieces and serious watches often start online and close in person. We add booking for a branch viewing or a video consultation, tied to the piece the customer was looking at so staff have it ready, plus a brief form with photo upload for custom design enquiries. With Shopify POS in the branch, the in-store sale lands on the same customer record as their online browsing.
VAT on gold and jewellery in the UAE
- Jewellery sold to consumers carries VAT at the standard 5%.
- Investment precious metals are zero-rated: gold, silver and platinum of 99% purity or more, in a form tradeable in global bullion markets.
- Sales between VAT-registered businesses of gold, other precious metals, precious stones and jewellery made mainly from them, bought for resale or manufacturing, fall under the domestic reverse charge (Cabinet Decision No. 127 of 2024, in force since February 2025), with written declarations from the buyer.
On Shopify, that usually means a tax override for a bullion collection and a B2B setup for trade buyers (see Shopify B2B and wholesale). Making charges and mixed items are exactly where to ask your tax adviser, and the VAT Executive Regulation was amended again in 2026, so have your accountant sign off the settings before launch.

How we work
- Scoping call: your range, branches, pricing method, POS and ERP.
- Written scope and quote: every project is scoped and quoted individually, with the pricing logic agreed in writing before we build it.
- Build: product data, pricing job, theme, payments, shipping profiles and booking. See Shopify development in Dubai.
- Launch: price updates run in parallel with your current process until the numbers match, then test orders on every payment method.
- Support: monitoring the pricing job and ongoing changes through Shopify maintenance and support.
What we need from you
- How you price today: rate source, making charges by category, rounding rules.
- Your product data, including weights, karats and certificate numbers.
- Your courier and insurance arrangements, or a decision on who will handle valuables.
- Access to your POS or ERP if prices or stock should come from there.
We take on a small number of builds at a time and work best with retailers who want a store they own and can run themselves.
