Shopify Help — Fix the 12 Most Common Shopify Issues (UAE Guide)
A practical Shopify help guide written for UAE store owners. Every issue below is one we've seen — and fixed — dozens of times. If you're stuck, start here. If you need hands-on help, email us.
Most Shopify problems aren't Shopify problems — they're configuration, theme, or app problems. 9 times out of 10, the fix is under 30 minutes.
1. My Shopify store is slow
The single most common issue we see. Slow Shopify stores cost you money — every additional second of load time drops mobile conversion by roughly 7%.
The usual culprits:
- Too many apps. Each app typically injects JavaScript on every page. Audit yours — uninstall anything you haven't opened in 60 days.
- Unoptimised images. Shopify serves WebP automatically, but only for images under 20MB. Compress before upload.
- Heavy theme. "Feature-rich" themes are usually code-bloated. Lightweight themes like Dawn or custom-built ones (our preference) outperform paid themes.
- Third-party scripts. Tag manager, pixels, chat widgets — each one adds delay. Audit quarterly.
Run your store through PageSpeed Insights to get a baseline. Aim for an LCP under 2.5 seconds and an INP under 200ms.
2. Customers can't check out
Checkout failures are revenue-critical — every blocked order is money lost. In order of likelihood:
- Your payment gateway is down or misconfigured. Check the gateway dashboard first.
- An app that modifies checkout (shipping, discount, or tax apps) is throwing an error. Disable apps one by one to isolate.
- The customer's card is blocked for 3D Secure — common with UAE-issued cards on international purchases.
- Your plan doesn't support the feature you've tried to enable. Upgrade to check if that's the issue.
3. Apps conflicting with each other
Shopify apps share the same page environment — when two apps both modify the cart, they can conflict silently. Signs: buttons that don't respond, quantity changes that don't update, discounts that disappear.
Fix: Disable apps in reverse order of installation until the problem disappears. Then decide whether you need both — you usually don't.
4. "Shopify Payments is not available in your country"
Correct — and it's not going to change soon. Shopify Payments doesn't support UAE merchants. You need a local gateway. Full guide: Shopify Payment Gateway UAE.
5. My products aren't showing on Google
Product indexing issues break down into:
- Technical: canonical tags pointing to the wrong URL, noindex accidentally set, or crawl budget wasted on filtered collection pages.
- Structured data: Shopify's default Product schema is partial — add full Product markup including availability, price, and review aggregates.
- Duplicates: The same product on multiple collection URLs, diluting authority.
Our Shopify SEO services cover all of this.
6. Arabic/RTL not working properly
Building a bilingual UAE store? Common issues:
- Shopify's Markets feature handles language switching, but themes need RTL stylesheets to render Arabic properly
- Arabic product titles break layouts designed for English character widths
- hreflang tags missing on the Arabic storefront
Our development team handles bilingual stores end-to-end.
7. Emails going to spam
Shopify sends transactional emails from a shared domain by default, which hurts deliverability. Fix: Set up a custom sending domain with proper SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records. Takes 30 minutes, saves countless lost customer emails.
8. Inventory sync issues
If you sell on multiple channels (Shopify + Instagram + physical shop), inventory desync is inevitable without automation. Use Shopify POS or an inventory app like Stocky (free on Shopify Plus) to keep counts in sync.
9. Discount codes not working
Things to check in order:
- Is the code active and within its date range?
- Are there minimum purchase requirements or product restrictions?
- Is the customer eligible (new customer only, specific customer group)?
- Is another discount or automatic discount already applied (Shopify allows only one discount code per order by default)?
10. Shopify theme won't save changes
Usually a browser cache issue. Try: hard refresh (Cmd+Shift+R), different browser, or incognito mode. If persistent, duplicate the theme and work on the copy.
11. My Shopify bill keeps going up
Hidden costs we see frequently:
- App subscriptions — audit monthly
- Transaction fees (extra 2% if you're not using Shopify Payments, which UAE merchants can't use anyway)
- Shipping apps charging per-label
- Plan upgrades triggered by staff account limits
12. I just need someone to help me
Fair. Shopify's Help Center is decent, but it's written for a global audience. When you need UAE-specific help — bilingual setups, local payment gateways, Arabic SEO, regional Google Ads — email us. First review is free.
