Shopify ERP integration means your stock, prices, orders, refunds and VAT invoices agree between the website, the branches and the back office, without someone retyping them. We connect Shopify to Odoo, Zoho, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP Business One, NetSuite, QuickBooks or Xero, for UAE retailers with stock across several branches and a POS in each.
What a Shopify ERP integration should sync
Every field needs one owner, one direction and a frequency.
| Data | Usual direction | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Products and variants (SKU, barcode, English and Arabic names) | ERP → Shopify | On change, plus a nightly check |
| Stock per branch or warehouse | ERP → Shopify, per location | Minutes, not hours |
| Prices and price lists (retail, sale, trade) | ERP → Shopify | On change |
| Orders (online and Shopify POS) | Shopify → ERP | As each order is created |
| Customers and companies | Shopify → ERP (B2B often both ways) | With the order |
| Refunds, returns and exchanges | Shopify → ERP as credit notes | As each refund is created |
| Fulfilment and tracking | ERP or warehouse → Shopify | On dispatch |
| VAT tax invoices with your TRN | Issued from the ERP (or a Shopify invoicing app) | Per order |
As a rule the ERP owns product master, cost, stock and price. Shopify owns the order and everything the shopper reads: descriptions, images, SEO fields and Arabic translations.
Connector app, middleware or custom app
There are three ways to connect the two systems. For most UAE retailers the real choice is between the first and the third.
- Connector app. Off the shelf, from the ERP vendor or a third party. Fastest to set up. Limits: fixed mappings, stock pushed as one total, little room for Arabic fields or bundles.
- Middleware (iPaaS). An integration platform in between, often run by your ERP partner. Flexible, but another subscription and another place for errors to hide.
- Custom app. A private app we build on the Shopify Admin GraphQL API and webhooks, with Shopify Functions where checkout rules depend on ERP data, such as trade pricing. See Shopify app development.
Two facts before you buy. Shopify made the REST Admin API legacy on 1 October 2024 and requires new public apps to use GraphQL from 1 April 2025, so question any connector still on REST. And only Shopify Plus stores can run custom apps containing Shopify Functions (Shopify REST Admin API, Shopify Functions). Last checked: October 2026.
Shopify ERP integration by system
| ERP | Common connector options | When custom makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Odoo | Third-party modules on the Odoo Apps Store, per Odoo version. Odoo Online can't install third-party apps (data-only modules aside), so these need Odoo.sh or on-premise. | You're on Odoo Online, or branch stock and POS live in Odoo. |
| Zoho Inventory | Zoho's built-in integration: orders in, stock out, warehouses mapped to Shopify locations. By default stock goes as one combined total. | You need per-branch availability, Arabic names or component bundles. |
| Dynamics 365 Business Central | Microsoft's Shopify Connector, preinstalled for new sign-ups: products, multi-location stock, prices, customers, orders (including POS and B2B), refunds as credit memos. | Your UAE localisation (partner-built, not Microsoft's) adds fields the connector doesn't fill. |
| SAP Business One | Third-party apps and integration platforms, usually with your SAP partner. | Often. B1 setups are usually customised enough that a mapped integration beats a generic app. |
| NetSuite | Oracle's NetSuite Connector (formerly FarApp), added through your NetSuite account manager. | Multi-subsidiary, B2B terms or logic the connector can't express. |
| QuickBooks Online | Intuit's own app, free to install: sales, payouts, products and inventory. | Rarely. It's accounting; the real question is your inventory system. |
| Xero | Xero's integration: sales as daily summaries or individual sales, payouts matched to the bank. | Rarely, for the same reason. |

Branch stock, Shopify POS and the ERP
Each branch or warehouse becomes a Shopify location, and you choose which ones ship online orders or offer click and collect. Then pick one set-up:
- Branches run the ERP's POS. Shopify needs branch stock from the ERP fast enough not to sell the last unit a shop sold an hour ago, plus a small safety buffer per location.
- Branches run Shopify POS. Shopify holds stock for every location, and POS orders flow to the ERP like online orders.
Either way, don't rely on webhooks alone. Shopify states that webhook delivery isn't guaranteed and events can arrive out of order, and recommends periodic reconciliation jobs (Shopify webhook best practices, Last checked: October 2026). Our integrations run a scheduled check that compares both sides and flags differences.
Where Shopify ERP integrations break
- SKU mismatches. Variants without SKUs, one barcode on two products, trailing spaces. We audit SKUs before writing any sync.
- Partial refunds and exchanges. One line or shipping refunded, restocked or not, a Tabby or Tamara refund, a COD refund paid by bank transfer outside Shopify. Each needs a matching credit note.
- COD orders. They arrive unpaid; the ERP mustn't book cash, and refused deliveries must reverse cleanly.
- Arabic product names. Many ERPs hold one name field. Shopify keeps Arabic as a translation, which a careless sync overwrites or never sends.
- Bundles and kits. Shopify sells one item, the ERP needs the components. Prescription glasses are a frame, two lenses and a prescription.
- VAT rounding. Shopify calculates VAT per line and many ERPs per document, so fils-level differences need a rule.
UAE e-invoicing is part of the brief now
The UAE Ministry of Finance moved the deadline for businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more to appoint an Accredited Service Provider to 30 October 2026, with the first mandatory phase to be met by 1 January 2027 (MoF eInvoicing Programme, June 2026, Last checked: October 2026). The e-invoice is usually issued from the ERP, so the data reaching it from Shopify has to be complete. Ask your tax adviser which sales are in scope.
What we built for Dubai Optical
We built the Shopify online arm of Dubai Optical / Opti-Vision, a multi-branch UAE optical retailer, including its ERP/POS integration: stock, prices and orders sync between Shopify and the stores' back office. Every prescription order is a bundle with customer data attached, which is also why we built LensPath, our own Shopify app for lens customisation. More on that in Shopify for eyewear and optical.
How we work
- Scoping call. ERP, version, hosting, locations and who owns which data.
- Data audit and quote. SKU quality, field mapping, connector or custom. Every project is scoped and quoted individually.
- Build. Against an ERP sandbox, never your live books.
- Parallel run. Both systems compared daily until the numbers match.
- Launch and support. Monitoring, reconciliation alerts and changes as you grow. See Shopify maintenance and support.
Is this right for you?
It is if you sell online and in branches, keep stock in several places, or fix orders by hand every week. Trade pricing has its own page: Shopify B2B and wholesale. If the catalogue is small and stock changes once a day, a connector or CSV import is enough, and we'll say so.
What we need from you: ERP access or an introduction to your ERP partner, a product export with SKUs, your locations, and an hour with whoever reconciles the books. New store too? See Shopify development in Dubai.
