Shopify in the UAE: the complete guide for 2026
Everything a Dubai or UAE business needs to know before selling on Shopify — what works, what it costs in dirhams, which licence you need, how payments and shipping work here, and where Shopify beats (and loses to) Salla, Zid and WooCommerce.
Short answer: yes, Shopify works in the UAE. You can run a Shopify store from Dubai, price in AED, sell in English and Arabic, take cards, Apple Pay, Tabby, Tamara and Cash on Delivery, and ship with local couriers. The details that trip people up are licences, which plans get Shopify Payments, and VAT. All three are below.

1. Is Shopify available in the UAE?
Yes. Anyone can open a Shopify store from the UAE, and many of the UAE’s best-known DTC brands run on it. Shopify bills UAE merchants in US dollars (the UAE isn't on Shopify's local-currency billing list), but your storefront can be priced and paid in AED.
The one thing that changed in 2026 is Shopify Payments: it is now available to UAE merchants, but only on the Advanced and Plus plans. On Basic and Grow you use a third-party gateway instead — which works fine, but adds a Shopify transaction fee. More in section 3.
2. Shopify pricing in AED
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Extra fee if not using Shopify Payments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 ≈ AED 143 | $29 ≈ AED 107 | 2% |
| Grow | $105 ≈ AED 386 | $79 ≈ AED 290 | 1% |
| Advanced | $399 ≈ AED 1,465 | $299 ≈ AED 1,098 | 0.6% |
| Plus | From $2,300 ≈ AED 8,447 (3-year term) / $2,500 ≈ AED 9,181 (1-year) | Negotiated | |
Converted at AED 3.6725 per USD. Prices exclude VAT and change — last checked October 2026. Confirm on shopify.com before you subscribe.
The plan is the smallest part of the cost. Apps, a theme, payment processing and the build itself matter more — see the full breakdown in Shopify pricing in the UAE.
3. Payments: what actually works in the UAE
- Shopify Payments — available to eligible UAE merchants on Advanced and Plus. Cards and accelerated checkouts, no extra Shopify transaction fee.
- Local and regional gateways — Telr, PayTabs, Network International (N-Genius), Checkout.com, Mamo, Stripe. The default on Basic and Grow.
- Buy now, pay later — Tabby and Tamara both have Shopify apps. UAE shoppers expect them in fashion, beauty, electronics and home.
- Cash on Delivery — still important for first-time buyers. Needs rules (order value caps, verification, emirate restrictions) or return rates eat your margin.
Every gateway will ask for a valid UAE trade licence and a bank account in the business or owner's name. Full comparison and fees: Shopify payment gateway UAE.
4. Licence, VAT and corporate tax
To sell online in the UAE you need a licence that covers ecommerce activity. The common routes:
| Route | Indicative cost | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai eTrader (DET) | From AED 1,070/yr + chamber fee | Home-based sellers; physical goods only for UAE/GCC nationals |
| Mainland ecommerce licence (DET) | ~AED 10–15k/yr | Selling across the UAE, warehouses, staff |
| Free zone ecommerce licence | ~AED 6–35k/yr depending on zone | Founders wanting a visa, international sales |
VAT: registration is mandatory once taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 a year and voluntary above AED 187,500. Shopify can show VAT-inclusive prices in AED and generate tax-compliant invoices with the right settings or apps. Corporate tax is 0% on taxable profit up to AED 375,000 and 9% above. Read the full ecommerce licence Dubai guide — and speak to a licensed adviser before you choose.
5. Shipping and fulfilment
Shopify doesn't offer its own shipping labels in the UAE, so you connect a courier: Aramex, Quiqup, Jeebly, Emirates Post, SMSA or a 3PL with a Shopify app. Typical setup: flat or free-over-threshold rates by emirate, same-day zones in Dubai, and COD fees configured at checkout.
6. Arabic, AED and selling to the GCC
- Arabic storefront — Shopify supports multiple languages and RTL themes. Use translated URLs and hreflang so Arabic pages rank on their own.
- AED pricing — set AED as store currency; use Shopify Markets for SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR and BHD price lists.
- Selling to Saudi Arabia — doable from the UAE with Markets and cross-border couriers, but duties, Tamara/Tabby KSA and Arabic-first UX matter more there.
7. Shopify vs the alternatives in the UAE
| Platform | Strengths | Watch-outs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify | App ecosystem, reliability, checkout, global marketing integrations | USD billing; transaction fee without Shopify Payments | Most UAE brands |
| Salla | Arabic-first, strong KSA ecosystem | Smaller app/theme ecosystem outside KSA | KSA-focused sellers |
| Zid | Arabic-first, KSA logistics | Same as Salla | KSA SMEs |
| WooCommerce | Full control, no platform fee | You run hosting, security, updates | Teams with in-house developers |
| Wix / Squarespace | Quick brochure + small shop | Limited UAE payment and scaling options | Very small catalogues |

8. How to start an ecommerce business in the UAE on Shopify
- Pick your licence route and get the licence and bank account — gateways won't activate without them.
- Choose a plan. Start on Basic or Grow unless you'll quickly pass the volume where Advanced's lower fees and Shopify Payments pay for themselves.
- Register your .ae or .com domain and connect it.
- Build the store — theme, product pages, policies (returns, shipping, privacy) in English and Arabic.
- Set up payments — card gateway, Apple Pay, Tabby/Tamara, COD rules.
- Set up shipping — courier app, rates by emirate, same-day zones.
- Taxes — enable VAT once registered; AED-inclusive pricing.
- Tracking — GA4, Google Merchant Center, Meta pixel/CAPI.
- Launch and market — Google Shopping and Search are the fastest paid channels in the UAE; SEO compounds behind them.
