Why brands migrate from Salla to Shopify (or from Zid)
Salla and Zid are good platforms for a Saudi business selling in Saudi Arabia. The reasons to leave arrive with growth outside that market, or a UAE company behind the store.
- More than one market from one store. Shopify Markets runs the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the GCC and further markets from one store, each with its own language, URLs and shipping rates.
- The app ecosystem. Most global tools for reviews, loyalty, subscriptions and search are built for Shopify first.
- Shopify Payments in the UAE. Available to UAE stores on Advanced and Plus for online sales, and needed for local-currency pricing.
- Separate stores when you need them. Shopify Plus includes nine expansion stores, for example a Saudi store with its own entity and stock.
- Wholesale. Since 2 April 2026, Basic, Grow and Advanced include native B2B with company profiles, payment terms, volume pricing and up to three active catalogs. See Shopify B2B and wholesale in the UAE.
If your company and customers are in Saudi Arabia and you sell little elsewhere, staying is often right. We'll say so on the call.

Salla vs Shopify for a UAE-based brand
| Salla / Zid | Shopify (UAE entity) | |
|---|---|---|
| Built around | Saudi Arabia | Any market; UAE, KSA and GCC as markets in one store |
| Mada | Built in | Through a third-party provider such as Checkout.com or Tap Payments |
| Prices in SAR and AED | SAR-first | Local currencies need Shopify Payments: Advanced or Plus |
| Multiple stores | Separate accounts | Nine expansion stores on Plus |
What you can export from Salla and Zid
Neither platform exports a file Shopify can import as it is. The exports are raw material; the work is converting them.
| Data | Salla | Zid | Into Shopify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Products | Product export templates, Excel or CSV, with the fields you choose | Dashboard → Products, all or selected | Product CSV or Matrixify. Options become variants: up to three options and 2,048 variants per product |
| Orders | Order export templates, Excel or CSV | Dashboard → Orders, all, selected or filtered | A migration app or the API, imported after products and customers so they link |
| Customers | Check what your plan exports; otherwise via Salla's API | Dashboard → Customers, all or selected | Customer CSV (UTF-8, 15 MB per file) or Matrixify. Passwords never move |
| Pages, blog, SEO fields | Usually copied and rebuilt | Pages, blog posts, metafields | |
Two Zid details catch people out: export files are password-protected, with the password sent in a separate email, and emailed product export links expire after a week.

Arabic-first content and URLs
On Salla and Zid, Arabic is often the main language. On Shopify one language is the default and the others are translations, so the first decision is which one Google should see as primary: Arabic as default with English translated, or English as default with Arabic under /ar/.
- Translations. Shopify's free Translate & Adapt app auto-translates up to two languages and lists URL translation among its features. We check the Arabic on your best sellers by hand.
- Handles. Arabic-script URLs work but become long percent-encoded strings when pasted into WhatsApp or ads. We agree Arabic or English handles with you, then keep them stable.
- Redirects. Every old URL, in both languages, gets a 301 to its new equivalent. Shopify imports redirects from a CSV, and a redirect only fires when the old path returns a 404 on Shopify, so the map is built and tested before DNS moves.
- Domain. Keep it. Redirects live on your domain; a store that only ever ran on a platform address has nothing to redirect from.
- RTL. Every template checked in Arabic on a phone.

Mapping KSA payments and shipping to a UAE/GCC setup
| On Salla or Zid | On Shopify, UAE entity |
|---|---|
| Platform payments | Shopify Payments on Advanced or Plus, or Telr, PayTabs or Network International on any plan. Compared on Shopify payment gateways in the UAE |
| Mada | Not listed by Shopify Payments in the UAE. Use a provider whose Shopify app supports it, such as Checkout.com or Tap Payments, after confirming it will enable Mada for a UAE entity |
| Tabby, Tamara | Both have Shopify apps. Ask whether your UAE merchant account covers Saudi customers |
| SMSA, Aramex | Both publish Shopify apps (SMSA, Aramex). Live rates need carrier-calculated shipping; flat rates by zone work on any plan |
| Cash on delivery | A manual payment method; Shopify's third-party transaction fee doesn't apply to it |
| Saudi VAT at 15% | UAE VAT at 5% set as manual tax, VAT-inclusive prices, your TRN on tax invoices; Saudi import VAT handled in the Saudi market |

SAR vs AED pricing
On Salla or Zid you most likely price in SAR. A UAE Shopify store normally runs in AED. To show and charge SAR to Saudi shoppers you need Shopify Payments, and UAE stores only get it on Advanced and Plus. On Basic or Grow, Saudi customers see AED and their bank converts the charge.
Both currencies are pegged to the US dollar, so a fixed exchange rate with rounding keeps clean SAR price points; fixed rates also need Shopify Payments. Plan costs: Shopify pricing in the UAE.

How we work: timeline and phases
- Scoping call and audit (week 1). Sample exports, a crawl of the old URLs, Search Console data, and the apps, payments and couriers you use. Every project is scoped and quoted individually from this, in writing.
- Mapping (weeks 1–2). Options to variants, categories to collections, both languages, customers, orders and redirects.
- Build (weeks 2–5). Theme in both languages, Markets, payments, couriers and tax, or a redesign.
- Test import into the new store, checked against the source.
- Cutover. Final import of new orders and customers, redirects live, DNS switched, a real test order on every payment method.
- Support. Thirty days of Search Console, 404 and order checks, then ongoing support if you want it.
Expect 3–5 weeks for a single-language catalogue and 5–8 weeks with full Arabic and English content or a redesign.
Risks to plan for
Arabic URLs left out of the redirect map. Mada or BNPL for Saudi customers confirmed after launch instead of before. SAR order history landing in an AED store's reports without a plan. Features with no direct twin, such as Zid's Mazeed marketplace listing. Each is listed in the audit so nothing disappears quietly.
Is this right for you
It fits a brand with a UAE company or UAE and GCC customers, Arabic content worth keeping, and a wish to own a store built properly. We'll need export rights on Salla or Zid, Search Console, GA4 and DNS access, and your payment and courier contracts.
