Best Shopify themes for UAE stores: Arabic, RTL and speed, checked before you buy
Short answer: for a store that sells in English and Arabic, shortlist Shopify themes whose Theme Store listing includes Right-to-left, then test them in your own admin with Arabic switched on. Prestige, Impact, Symmetry, Enterprise and Be Yours all list it, at USD 350–420 (about AED 1,285–1,540). Shopify’s free Dawn and Horizon don’t, so budget for RTL fixes if you start there.
Most “best Shopify themes” lists are written for stores that sell in one language, left to right. A UAE store usually sells in two, and Arabic flips the whole layout: menus open from the other side, carousels run backwards, arrows point the wrong way and the font changes.
This guide gives you a shortlist of themes that claim proper right-to-left support, what each developer’s own documentation says, the checklist I’d run before paying, and the point where a custom build is the better buy. I haven’t run lab speed tests on these themes for this post, so there are no speed scores here. The checklist shows you how to get numbers on your own catalogue and apps, which are the only numbers that matter. If you’d rather have the theme picked, customised and tested for you, that’s the core of my Shopify web design work in Dubai.

What to test before buying a theme
Shopify lets you preview a paid theme in your own admin before you buy it. Use that, because purchases of third-party themes are final sale and the licence covers one store only. Demo stores are built to flatter the theme in English. Your store, in Arabic, with your apps installed, is the real test.
- Add Arabic first. In Settings → Languages, add Arabic (it can stay unpublished) and translate a menu, a collection and two products with Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app. Then preview the theme in Arabic.
- Check direction switches per language. View the page source of the Arabic preview: the
<html>tag should carrydir="rtl", and the English pages shouldn’t. A theme with one global text-direction setting will flip your English pages too. - Open every drawer. Mobile menu, cart drawer, filters and search should slide in from the right in Arabic.
- Swipe every carousel. Product galleries and sliders should run right to left, with arrows pointing the right way.
- Stress the product grid. Long Arabic product titles at 360px wide, prices in AED, sale badges. Nothing should overlap or wrap mid-price.
- Mix the scripts. English brand names, sizes and SKUs inside Arabic sentences. Punctuation and numbers should land where a reader expects.
- Check the font. Is Arabic text set in a font you chose, or has the browser fallen back to a system font next to your brand’s Latin typeface?
- Type into forms. Search, newsletter and contact fields should align right and keep the cursor on the correct side.
- Measure with your apps on. Run PageSpeed Insights on mobile against the preview link for a product page and a collection page, not only the homepage, and compare with your current theme on the same day.
- Check update history. The Theme Store shows each theme’s current version and release date. A theme updated this year is still being looked after.
Checkout is Shopify’s, not the theme’s, so your theme choice doesn’t change how checkout handles Arabic.
Shopify themes shortlist for Arabic and RTL
“RTL” below means what the theme’s Theme Store listing or developer documentation says. It is the developer’s claim, not my test result.
| Theme | Developer | Price | RTL per listing or docs | Latest version |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prestige | Maestrooo | USD 400 (~AED 1,470) | Listed. Docs: RTL turns on automatically for Arabic; theme text pre-translated into Arabic | 11.4.1, Sep 2026 |
| Impact | Maestrooo | USD 400 (~AED 1,470) | Listed | 7.2.0, Jul 2026 |
| Symmetry | Clean Canvas | USD 420 (~AED 1,540) | Listed | 8.3.2, Jul 2026 |
| Enterprise | Clean Canvas | USD 420 (~AED 1,540) | Listed | 2.3.0, Apr 2026 |
| Be Yours | RoarTheme | USD 350 (~AED 1,285) | Listed | 9.5.1, Sep 2026 |
| Impulse | Archetype Themes | USD 500 (~AED 1,835) | Not listed. Docs: one text-direction setting that affects all languages | 10.0.0, Oct 2026 |
| Dawn | Shopify | Free | Not listed | 16.1.0, Oct 2026 |
| Horizon | Shopify | Free | Not listed | 4.3.0, Oct 2026 |
Last checked: October 2026, on each theme’s Shopify Theme Store page, the Prestige language docs and Archetype’s RTL article. Prices are in USD on the Theme Store; AED figures use the 3.6725 peg.
Two things the table doesn’t show. First, the same developer doesn’t mean the same support: Maestrooo’s Focal and Warehouse (USD 320 each) don’t list right-to-left, while Prestige and Impact do. Check the specific theme, not the brand. Second, Impulse is a popular theme, but a single global direction setting suits an Arabic-only store, not a bilingual one. For English and Arabic you’d need an app or custom code to switch direction per language, which Archetype’s own article says.
If I were choosing for a bilingual fashion, beauty or fragrance store today, I’d preview Prestige and Symmetry first, because one documents automatic per-language RTL and the other lists it and was updated as recently as July 2026. Then I’d let the checklist decide.
Free themes worth using
Dawn and Horizon are Shopify’s own, free, and both had releases dated 9 October 2026. They’re well built and fast to start with. Neither lists right-to-left on the Theme Store, and Shopify Community threads from late 2025 report Dawn’s layout not aligning properly in Arabic, with merchants patching it with custom CSS.
- English-only launch, Arabic later: a free theme is a sensible start. Keep customisations light so a later theme switch is cheap.
- Arabic from day one: a USD 350–420 theme that lists RTL usually costs less than paying a developer to retrofit RTL styles across every section of a free one.
- Budget is the constraint: spend on Arabic translation and product photography before a premium theme. A plain theme with good Arabic copy beats a premium theme with machine translation.
The theme is the smallest line in the budget either way. Plans, apps and payment fees in AED are in Shopify pricing in the UAE.
Arabic fonts and RTL fixes
Most Latin display fonts have no Arabic characters, so the browser substitutes whatever system font it has. That’s how bilingual stores end up with a careful English typeface next to default Arabic text. Choose an Arabic family on purpose. IBM Plex Sans Arabic, Noto Kufi Arabic, Tajawal, Cairo and Almarai are all free on Google Fonts and pair reasonably with common sans-serif Latin fonts.
- Load it only in Arabic. Wrap the font in
{% if request.locale.iso_code == 'ar' %}intheme.liquidso English visitors don’t download it. - Two weights, not five. Regular and bold cover most stores. Every extra weight is another file on a mobile connection.
- Remove letter-spacing on Arabic. Tracking that looks elegant in English breaks the joins between Arabic letters.
- Give Arabic more line height. Arabic has taller ascenders and descenders; English line heights look cramped.
- Flip directional icons. Chevrons, arrows and “next” buttons need mirroring under
[dir="rtl"]; logos and play buttons don’t. - Use logical CSS properties such as
margin-inline-startin any custom code, so it works in both directions without a second stylesheet. - Pick one digit style for prices and keep it consistent across the theme, apps and emails.
When to go custom instead
A theme is the right call for most UAE launches. I’d go custom when:
- Arabic is your main language, not the translation, and the design should start from Arabic typography.
- Your product pages need flows no theme has, such as configurators, prescriptions or bundles with rules.
- You’d override most of the theme anyway, so you’d be paying for code you then fight.
| Route | What you get | What drives the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Launch build | Premium theme customised, payments, apps, content | Theme licence plus customisation time; scales with templates and apps |
| Custom build | Custom Liquid theme, bilingual EN/AR, integrations | Several times a launch build; Arabic design, templates and integrations |
Both routes are scoped and quoted individually, as with all my Shopify development work. The USD 400 for the theme is rarely what decides the budget. Translation, Arabic typography and testing both languages on real phones are.
Where NKM fits
I choose, customise and test themes for bilingual UAE stores, and build custom themes when a store outgrows them. If you’re torn between two themes, send me both and your store URL and I’ll tell you which one survives the Arabic checklist.
